Inspiring the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals in the APAC Region

By APAC Office - ICAO on June 10, 2026

As aviation evolves so does our need to attract, develop, and retain skilled professionals. From pilots and air traffic controllers to engineers, cybersecurity specialists, environmental experts, and aviation leaders, the sector will require a diverse and highly qualified workforce to support future growth and innovation.

Recognizing this need, ICAO’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Programme works with States, industry, educational institutions, and other partners to raise awareness of aviation careers, strengthen talent pipelines, and inspire young people to consider careers in civil aviation. Through outreach, partnerships, mentorship, and capacity-building initiatives, ICAO is helping ensure that the aviation workforce of tomorrow is prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.

In line with this vision, the ICAO Asia and Pacific Office in Bangkok welcomed undergraduate students from Stamford International University’s Airline Business and Law programme on 29 April 2026.

The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to tour the Regional Office, engage directly with ICAO’s work, and gain insights into international civil aviation standards, as well as ICAO’s role in advancing aviation safety, security, and environmental protection across the Asia-Pacific region.

Students were warmly welcomed by the Deputy Regional Director of the ICAO Asia and Pacific Office, who delivered an overview of ICAO’s mandate and highlighted how global policies and Standards are implemented at the regional level. The session was further enriched by contributions from Regional Officers specializing in safety, security, communications, navigation, surveillance and spectrum (CNSS), and the environment, helping to bridge academic learning with real-world operational practice.

Students demonstrated strong enthusiasm for pursuing careers in aviation and expressed keen interest in the perspectives shared by Regional Officers, particularly regarding workplace culture, the professional environment, and careers within the United Nations system. A dynamic question-and-answer session enabled students to deepen their understanding of regional aviation challenges and explore the diverse career pathways available within civil aviation.

The ICAO Asia and Pacific Office remains committed to promoting aviation careers and supporting NGAP.
