The primary objective of ICAO’s Implementation Support and Development Section – Security (ISD-SEC) is to support ICAO Contracting States in resolving significant security deficiencies identified through the ICAO Aviation Security Audit Programme (USAP), and to assist them in their efforts to implement Standards and Recommended Practices of Annex 9 and Annex 17. ISD-SEC support enables Member States to meet their aviation security obligations through the promotion of partnerships and coordination of assistance between Member States, industry, international financial institutions and various other stakeholders.
The ICAO APAC Regional Office, in close coordination with ICAO Implementation Support and Development -Security (ISD-SEC) Section, led the delivery of the ICAO Aviation Security (AVSEC) Instructor Certification Course (ICC) (phase 2) hosted by the Aviation Security Training Center (ASTC) Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 27 to 31 May 2024.
The objective of the Instructor Certification Course is to certify qualified AVSEC experts to be short-term ICAO-certified Aviation Security Instructors to be called upon to deliver AVSEC training within the ASTC Network and/or as part of ICAO AVSEC assistance projects.
The ICC (phase 2) classroom session was participated by 18 Asia-based AVSEC experts from Australia, China, India, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand and United States. The successful outcome of the ICC was a result of the close collaborative work within ICAO, the persevering efforts of the course participants and the immense support provided by the ASTC Seoul. The APAC Regional expresses appreciation to all who were involved in this.
