To be able to cope with the expected air traffic growth in the APAC Region, States need to work together to increase the airspace capacity and maximize the utilization of available airspace. As airspace management is not only performed at the national level, but also at the international level, the ICAO APAC Regional Sub-Office (RSO) has taken the responsibility to serve as the Secretariat for two traffic flow review groups in the Asia/Pacific region, i.e. the South China Sea Traffic Flow Review Group (SCSTFRG) and the Bay of Bengal Traffic Flow Review Group (BOBTFRG).
In a joint effort between the Bangkok Regional Office and the Beijing Regional Sub-Office, ICAO supported the Civil Military Cooperation Conference and Workshop in Manila, Philippines, from 22 – 23 October 2018. The Conference and Workshop was attended by 63 attendees from the Civil Aeronautics Board, the CAA of the Philippines, the Philippine Air Force, Navy, Army and Coast Guard, IATA, government ministries, IAI ELTA, Air Asia, Cebu Pacific and ICAO. Numerous recommendations were made to improve civil/military cooperation in the Philippines as a result of the Workshop, which focused on the civil/military elements in the Asia/Pacific Seamless ATM Plan, and specific applications from the Asia/Pacific SAR Plan.
