ICAO’s Asia-Pacific Flight Procedure Programme (FPP) recently conducted a specialized training course called Flight Procedure Design Module 1. The training, which took place from 6 to 17 March 2023, was restructured to make it more efficient and suitable for online learning. Previously conducted in a four-week onsite format, it was now condensed to a two-week online mode.
The course focused on traditional and performance-based navigation (PBN) departure procedures, also known as SIDs. By combining both conventional and PBN courseware, the instructors managed to shorten the lecture time and give trainees more class time to practice and master their skills in a shorter period. Compared to past online training, exercise time increased by more than 50%. Participants expressed satisfaction with this new course format.
The training saw a record number of attendees, with a total of 71 participants from 18 countries and administrations in the Asia-Pacific region. These included Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong (China), India, Sri Lanka, Laos, Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
