Aviation, because it provides connectivity between nations, creates jobs and facilitates trade and tourism, is a key driver of economic and social development, and as such plays a key role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. While aviation is recognized as a forward-looking and innovative industry, it has yet to unleash its full potential through a more gender-balanced workforce at all levels, especially in technical, decision-making and senior roles.
ICAO’s APAC Office celebrated “International Women’s Day- 2025” on 10 February 2025 by organizing an event on the theme “Empowered to Lead: Breaking Barriers in Every Field,” aimed at promoting a global celebration of the achievements and contributions of women in aviation while advocating for gender equality. The event was attended by prominent key stakeholders of aviation industries from Thailand, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), Airports of Thailand, the Department of Airports, and AEROTHAI. Several instructors, professors, and students from the Civil Aviation Training Center and other Thailand universities offering aviation-related courses also participated in the event. The event aimed to recognize and celebrate women’s remarkable talent and contributions to advancing the aviation ecosystem, both in Thailand and globally, while sharing career advice with ambitious female students aiming to make their careers in aviation.
The event was inaugurated with opening remarks from the Deputy Regional Director, who highlighted the importance of gender equality and reiterated the activities of the ICAO Gender Equality. Following this, the Director General of CAAT delivered remarks sharing the gender equality policy in Thailand, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and highlighting the talents of women in the aviation sector. There were presentations by female role models in aviation from Thailand and the ICAO APAC Office. At the end of the event, a short quiz was organized for the students who took part, with rewards. The goal was to inspire inspired young female students to make career decisions and consider aviation a preferred career option, building next-generation aviation professionals.
