In April 2023, ICAO hosted two sessions of the Civil Aviation Master Planning (CAMP) Training Course in the beautiful countries of Fiji and the Philippines. This training was part of the ICAO Global Aviation Training (GAT) CAMP Scholarship Programme and brought together participants from ICAO APAC States.
The first session took place in Nadi, Fiji, from 10th to 14th April 2023 at the Hotel Novotel Nadi Conference Hall. The second session was held in Manila, Philippines, from 17th to 21st April 2023 at the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC), Metro Manila.
CAMP is one of the course I will remember for a long time. I find process of the learning to be more effective because of the exercise and mastery test that gave an opportunities for immediate application and ensuring retention of concept and application. Kudos to our very able and efficient instructors who steered the class very well.
The courses were attended by 55 participants from eight member states, including Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa, and Tonga. Distinguished guests, Honorable Viliame Gavoka, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation of Fiji, and Mr. Jaime J. Bautista, Secretary, Department of Transportation of the Philippines, graced the opening ceremonies in Fiji and the Philippines, respectively. The events also featured video messages from Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, ICAO Secretary General, and representatives from the People’s Republic of China Embassy in each country.
Prior to these sessions, in 2022, ICAO successfully organized two other CAMP Training Courses in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Bangkok, Thailand. These courses were attended by 52 participants from nine APAC Member States, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Lao PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Since the program’s inception, a total of 107 Civil Aviation Authority senior and middle Managers from 17 APAC Member States have completed specialized training in CAMP. One of the most encouraging aspects of this achievement is the significant participation of approximately 40 women in these strategic courses, contributing to the advancement of Gender Equality in aviation.
The CAMP course contains very good information for PSIDS. The instructors have a wealth of knowledge that also add further value to PSIDS and development and implementation of CAMP with each respective States. I commend ICAO APAC for the excellent initiatives and the continued support to PSIDS.
The ICAO CAMP Training Course is a critical initiative that supports the development of civil aviation master planning expertise. It equips professionals with essential skills and knowledge to address the challenges and complexities of the aviation industry effectively.
