The APAC Regional Office, in collaboration with GAT, conducted the virtual training Course “Managing Compliance with ICAO SARPs” (MCIS EN) for two weeks from 18 to 29 July 2022, funded through the aegis of FAA of USA complementary funds. The course was delivered to PSIDS states on a complimentary basis through the funds by FAA/USA as a part of the Implementation Road Map developed by APAC RO based on the report of the PSIDS Aviation Needs Analysis Study that was conducted by ICAO in 2018.
MCIS is identified as a competency-based training course (CBTC) basically to train CAA senior and middle-level management staff to enhance their competency for the identification and drafting of a Strategic Aviation Safety Action Pan, to ensure the implementation and monitoring of national standards while achieving the identified goals and targets in a timely manner.
APAC Regional Office, in collaboration with ICAO Global Aviation Training (GAT), said the course was modified specially for the adoption by the PSIDS states, expanding the usual delivery period of 5 to 10 days enabling PSDIS state’s staff with the opportunity to participate while attending their routine work. As a result of this vital adjustment, an unprecedented number of participants (18) registered and 15 successfully completed the training, including three directors from Fiji, Samoa and Cook Islands.
The course was immensely appreciated by all the participants from seven (7) States; Fiji (4), Samoa (3), Cook Island(2), Vanuatu(3), PNG(2), Kiribati(3) and Tonga (1) and provided a greater opportunity to reinstate and re-establish trust and mutual understanding of PSIDS via networking with APAC RO.
