Responding to reports of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones catching on fire, passengers and flight crews are banned from bringing the phones on all North American flights.  Phones may not be carried on board or checked in bags on flights within either country, nor can they be shipped as air cargo. Officials have warned that passengers with the phones will not be allowed to board planes, and those who try to avoid the ban by checking them in their luggage may be subject to fines and criminal prosecution.

Air Carriers in Asia, Australia and Europe are also imposing bans, with immediate effect to all flights going to the US and more restrictions will reportedly be imposed on all flights soon.

Samsung stopped sales, exchanges and production of the Galaxy Note7 around the world after reports that the phones were catching on fire and after complaints of exploding batteries.
