From the moment a journey begins until the traveller reaches their destination, countless systems, procedures and organizations have to work together to keep the world moving. It is a system that depends on coordination, cooperation and common standards. In this episode of our ICAO Explained video series, we explore how ICAO helps make international air travel more seamless, accessible and reliable.
Titled “Delivering Seamless, Accessible and Reliable Mobility for All,” this installment takes viewers beyond the aircraft to explore the systems and processes that make global aviation possible. From airspace management and modern navigation technologies to streamlined border procedures and digital travel documents, the episode highlights ICAO’s work with Member States and international partners to support the efficient movement of people and goods around the world.
Seamless mobility is also about ensuring that aviation can meet the needs of every traveller. This video explores ICAO’s work to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility, strengthen crisis preparedness, and support States in establishing frameworks to assist aircraft accident victims and their families. It also looks at how international cooperation helps build a more resilient aviation system.
As aviation evolves, so too must the systems that support it. Emerging technologies, including unmanned aircraft systems, remotely piloted aircraft and advanced air mobility, are introducing new possibilities for how people and goods move. ICAO is working with States and industry stakeholders to support the development of frameworks that enable these technologies to be safely integrated into the global aviation system.
How can aviation accommodate new technologies while maintaining the efficiency and reliability of existing operations? What does it take to make international travel more accessible? And how does cooperation between States help ensure that aviation remains connected and resilient in an increasingly complex world? These are just some of the challenges we explored in this episode, so we could offer viewers a closer look at the work taking place behind the scenes to make seamless mobility possible.
This work will be an important focus of ICAO’s upcoming Second Advanced Air Mobility Symposium (AAM 2026), taking place from 1 to 3 December 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the theme “From Vision to Implementation: Enabling the AAM Ecosystem,” the event will bring together international experts and decision-makers to explore the next steps towards safe, scalable and globally interoperable advanced air mobility operations.
