Though every year on 7 December World Civil Aviation Day is observed around the world, this year has even more significance. It has been 75 years since the signing of the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation which created ICAO and the modern civil aviation network.
The United Nations and the global aviation community is preparing to celebrate the crucial importance of flight to sustainable development and international friendship. You can join us, our 193 Member States, and aviation stakeholders this International Civil Aviation Day in celebrating this important milestone. We are where we are today because of an exceptional spirit of cooperation in fostering social, economic and sustainable development through air transport – here are two ways you can help us celebrate these achievements.
Share your aviation-related social media posts using the hashtags: #ICAO75 #FLYDAY
From now until 7 December, we want to hear from you. Tell us on social media how civil aviation impacts your life. Share your favourite flying or travel memories, upload pictures of you at work or moments at the airport. Tell us how aviation brought you to places you only dreamed of visiting or how it has united you with loved ones from far away.
These could be photos you take today or photos that others took decades ago. Don’t forget to use #ICAO75 and #FLYDAY on your posts for a chance to be featured in our ICAO75 Digital Album. Browse through the celebratory album to see what others have already shared!
