An update from the Asia and Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Group

The Thirty-third Meeting of the Asia/Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Group (APANPIRG/33) was held at the Trans Resort Bali, Indonesia from 22 to 24 November 2022 as a hybrid event (in-person and virtual participation).  The meeting was graciously hosted by Indonesia. Mr. Novie Riyanto R., Secretary General, Ministry of Transport, Indonesia welcomed all the delegates of APANPIRG/33 in the opening ceremony on 22 November 2022 and Mrs. Maria Kristi, Advisor to the Minister for Safety and Connectivity, Indonesia, thanked all delegates for their active participation in the Meeting and ICAO for providing an opportunity for Indonesia to host the Meeting during closing ceremony on 24 November 2022.

The meeting was attended by 326 participants from 30 Member States, 2 Special Administrative Regions of China and 7 International Organizations (ACI, CANSO, IATA, ICAO, IFALPA, IFATSEA and PASO). The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Kevin Shum, Deputy Secretary (Strategy, Sustainability & Technology) Ministry of Transport of Singapore. Laminar Aviation Infotech, Nokia, AirNav Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia Civil Aviation Polytechnic Curug, Angkasapura Airports and Centre for Human Resources Development on Civil Aviation were sponsors/exhibitors to the APANPIRG/33 Meeting.

The meeting with great interest reviewed the status of the progress achieved by States in terms of Beijing Declaration Commitments in the field of Air Navigation for the APAC Region using data from January 2018 to May 2022. The meeting closed 13 APANPIRG air navigation deficiencies that had been rectified by States in ATM and Airspace Safety, AOP and MET fields. The APANPIRG/33 adopted 13 Conclusions and 1 Decision on Six Agenda Items. The meeting appreciated the work performed and achievements made by APANPIRG’s sub-groups during 2022 in spite of the difficulties encountered due to COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting unanimously reelected Mr. Kevin Shum as the Chairperson of APANPIRG for the next three-year terms.
