Couldn’t be in Morocco for the Global Implementation Support Symposium? We’re bringing it to you here!

We just kicked off the 2026 ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS)! This is ICAO’s annual global event that brings together States, industry leaders, financial institutions, and technical experts to strengthen aviation systems and cooperation worldwide. So many have already exchanged practical solutions, and there have been discussions that promote cooperation and accelerate the effective implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices across regions. GISS provides a global platform for sharing solutions, forging partnerships, and advancing sustainable aviation through strengthened implementation efforts aligned with ICAO’s No Country Left Behind initiative.

ICAO is deeply appreciative of the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting the fifth edition of this event, dedicated to implementation support. As the first African State to host GISS, their leadership reflects both their strong commitment to global civil aviation and its growing role as a regional and international aviation hub. The event is being live-streamed on ICAO TV, here. Viewers need to set up an account to watch (there is no charge to access content). A snapshot of the programme is shared at the bottom of this article; the full programme is available here.

A global forum focused on delivery

GISS has become a central meeting point for those working at the intersection of policy, operations, and implementation. By bringing together civil aviation authorities, international and regional organizations, service providers, development partners, and industry stakeholders, the symposium reflects the interconnected nature of aviation development today.

This year’s discussions are focused on a central objective: translating global aviation priorities into measurable, on-the-ground results.

Participants are not only exchanging perspectives—they are identifying solutions, sharing lessons learned, and building partnerships that can support tangible progress across regions.

The programme is grounded in real-world challenges

The GISS 2026 programme is structured to connect strategy with implementation, with sessions addressing key priorities shaping the future of aviation:

  • Global air connectivity — exploring how aviation drives economic development and how regional initiatives can support scalable growth
  • Safety and security in an evolving landscape — examining challenges and strengthening systems in support of the goal of zero fatalities
  • Financing aviation development — connecting aviation projects with financial expertise and investment perspectives
  • Strengthening implementation support — enhancing collaboration between ICAO, States, and partners
  • Regional cooperation mechanisms — including the role of RSOOs and RAIOs in improving oversight and governance
  • Infrastructure for emerging markets — with a focus on resilient, fit-for-purpose development
  • Workforce development and the next generation of aviation professionals — addressing capacity gaps through training and partnerships

Through these sessions, participants are exploring how ICAO programmes, State-led initiatives, and industry solutions can work together to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Advancing implementation through partnership

At the heart of GISS is ICAO’s commitment to ensuring that all Member States can effectively implement global aviation standards.

Aligned with the No Country Left Behind initiative, the symposium provides a space to share experiences, identify common challenges, and connect States with the expertise, tools, and partnerships needed to strengthen their aviation systems.

By fostering collaboration across sectors and regions, GISS supports more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable aviation development worldwide.

Watch the discussions as they take place

As sessions continue over the coming days (the schedule is provided below), ICAO TV provides a unique opportunity to follow the discussions on how the global aviation community is working together to turn priorities into action. From high-level dialogue to practical solutions, the symposium highlights the collective effort required to strengthen aviation systems and deliver safe, secure, and sustainable air transport for all.
