When the aviation industry began facing human resource challenges that included a retiring workforce, competition for skilled talent, and the need for harmonized qualifications, ICAO established the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) initiative to address them. With a mission to attract, educate, and retain skilled aviation professionals, NGAP serves an important role in supporting a sustainable global aviation system. It is an initiative that aligns closely with ICAO’s long-term strategic goals, ensuring the industry is equipped to meet future demands.
This year’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Summit will provide an important platform for aviation leaders, policymakers, and educators to collaborate and shape the future workforce. Held from 12 to 14 August 2025 at the iconic Durban International Conference Centre (ICC Durban) in South Africa, the summit is co-hosted by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) under the leadership of the Department of Transport.
Building the workforce of the future
Under the theme “The Flight Plan for Future Aviation Talent: Innovate, Educate, Inspire – Building the workforce for the skies ahead,” this Summit is going to bring together key stakeholders that include industry leaders, education and training experts, youth representatives, and regional and international organizations. This theme underscores the importance of innovation and collaboration to create a sustainable talent pipeline.
The summit will feature high-level plenary sessions, where policymakers and industry leaders will share insights and strategies to address human resource challenges. There will also be an Aviation Career Exhibition that will highlight diverse career opportunities in the aviation sector. Our goal is to inspire young professionals to pursue careers in this dynamic industry.
