The ICAO Regional Office that is based in Cairo, Egypt is responsible for serving 15 Contracting States: Bahrain, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
To ensure interregional coordination, ICAO’s MID Office promotes the timely and harmonized implementation of ICAO Strategic Objectives, policies and decisions, as well as Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and the MID Air Navigation Plan (ANP) provisions in these States. A safe, secure, economically viable and environmentally friendly air transport system is the ultimate goal of ICAO and all Member States. Coordinated efforts, through outreach and missions, help to ensure this goal is achieved. These are the missions that took place in the MID Region from in the first half of 2019 that support this work.
AVSEC Certification System Workshop and CASP-MID Workshop
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 11-14 February 2019
Guidance was provided to the Training and Certification Directorate, GACA/Saudi Arabia, on how to improve the AVSEC Certification System in line with the National Aviation Security Training Programme (NCASTP).
The MID-SECFAL Plan and Roadmap were reviewed and discussed in detail with CASP-MID Member States to begin developing their own implementation roadmap. The States were encouraged to draft their own implementation roadmaps according to their priorities and capabilities. CASP-MID Member States agreed to share them with the ICAO MID Office by May 2019.
Surveillance/MICA Workshop

The Surveillance/Mode S Interrogator Code Allocation (MICA), pictured at the top of this page, was held at the ICAO Middle East Regional Office in Cairo, Egypt, from 26 to 28 February 2019. The meeting was attended by 25 participants from five MID States (Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Qatar and Sudan) and two organizations (IFATCA and EUROCONTROL).
