The Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Subgroup meets

By APAC Office - ICAO on January 20, 2021

The Twenty Fourth Meeting of the Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Subgroup (CNS SG/24) of Asia/Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Group (APANPIRG), was held virtually, for the first time, from 30 November to 4 December 2020. The meeting was attended by 176 participants from 26 States/Administrations, 5 International Organizations, and 26 participants from industry partners. 26 working papers, 24 information papers, 6 flimsies, and 7 Presentations considered by the Meeting on 14 agenda items resulted in 12 conclusions and 5 decisions. Two new agendas namely CNS-related work/projects impacted by COVID-19 and Automation were included in the meeting first time.

The CNS Sub-group plays an important role in facilitating States in the provision of seamless air navigation service with the deployment of advanced technologies in a harmonized manner and in shaping the future direction of CNS development. The Meeting reviewed achievements and tasks of the Sub-group since its last meeting and the outcomes of different APANPIRG contributory bodies reported through CNS Sub-group.

The meeting adopted two new guidance documents for States, namely the CRV OG Operations Manual and Flight Inspection Guidance Material (FIGM) for the APAC Region. They also revised three other guidance documents: AFTN/AMHS-based Interface Control Document (ICD) for ATFM, Mode S DAPs IGD 2.0, and ADS-B Implementation and Operations Guidance Document (AIGD) Edition13. A new Study Group under SURICG on Sharing of Surveillance Data in SWIM (SurSG) to study and recommend solutions on surveillance data sharing to provide surveillance from “departure to destination” is established. Five industries presented new innovative technologies in the domain of CNS to share knowledge about current trends and practices.

The working papers, information papers, flimsies, presentations, discussions, and a detailed report on the outcome of the CNS SG/24 are provided here.
