The Asia/Pacific Cooperative Aviation Security Programme

By APAC Office - ICAO on July 23, 2021

The Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia/Pacific (CASP-AP) conducted an online delivery pilot session of the ICAO Air Cargo and Mail Security Course from 26 to 30 April 2021.  Eighteen participants from the Philippines’ regulator, airport, airline operators and cargo handlers joined the course, which was delivered by Mr. Ross Lockie, CASP-AP Acting Programme Coordinator and Regional Officer, Aviation & Facilitation and Ms. Lita Lee, Training and Capacity Building Officer for CASP-AP.

The purpose of this course was to enable the target population to integrate the knowledge of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) into the context of their designated role in their organization as part of national responsibility to secure air cargo and mail against acts of unlawful interference, in accordance with Annex 17 and the ICAO Aviation Security Manual  (Doc 8973 – Restricted).

On 11 of June 2021, the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Embassy in the Philippines together with CASP-AP, had a follow-up meeting with the same eighteen participants to conduct a return to work program to encourage the lessons learned from the course to be integrated into the day-to-day work of the participants. The conduct of this course acted as a trial for the CASP-AP to conduct virtual training under the current COVID pandemic travel restrictions. Following the success of this trial, CASP-AP will provide further sessions of this course and other ICAO courses and workshops, as they become available for online virtual delivery and which will be open to all CASP-AP Members.
