All States are encouraged in ICAO Assembly Resolution A41-21 to submit and update voluntary action plans to ICAO to reduce CO2 emissions in international aviation and to outline respective policies, actions, and roadmaps, including long-term projections.
The Workshop was generously hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) headed by Chief Executive Ms Theresa Levestam in the below photo, front row, left and formally opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Fiji, Ms Salaseini Daunabuna (front row, right).
ICAO’s APAC Regional Officer Environment and Climate Change, Mr Sayuta Senobua (photo: front row, centre), delivered the Workshop to twenty-nine (29) participants from Civil Aviation Authorities, airline operators, airport operators, and air navigation service providers from the following six (6) PSIDS: Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu.
The Workshop provided participants with technical assistance and practical guidance to facilitate the PSIDS in preparing and submitting their SAPs to ICAO. Participants shared knowledge and experience on the SAP development process and received guidance on using ICAO supporting tools to draft their initial or updated SAPs. In addition, the Workshop provided an opportunity for ICAO to share information on and assist States with CORSIA implementation.
The ICAO APAC Office remains committed to assisting the Member States with preparing and updating their SAPs to reflect further progress on environment-driven innovations such as aircraft technologies, operational improvements, sustainable aviation fuels and the basket of measures considered by States, and the respective national capacities and circumstances, quantified information on the expected environmental benefits, and information on any specific assistance needs for the implementation of the measures.
