By APAC Office - ICAO on July 24, 2023

Over the last six months, the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) section of the ICAO APAC Office has organized several important meetings and events. These are some of the  achievements that took place during the first half-year of 2023:

Effective Common Aeronautical Virtual (CRV) Governance for supporting APAC Member States

ICAO’s APAC Regional Office organized the ICAO APAC Idea Generation Workshop: CRV Governance on 31 January 2023 and the Eleventh Meeting of the Common aeRonautical Virtual Private Network Operations Group of APANPIRG (CRV OG/11) from 1 to 3 February 2023. The Workshop highlighted the significance and necessity of effective CRV governance for supporting APAC Member States and deliberated its effectiveness and approach for enhancement. The CRV OG/11 reviewed the CRV implementation of APAC Member States, CRV OG Reference documents, the requirements of CRV for SWIM subscribers, and interregional IP network connections, and formed the CRV OG Ad-hoc Governance Group to further work on CRV governance improvement.

The first Meeting of CRV OG Ad-hoc Governance Group, held from 22 to 23 May 2023, reviewed and analyzed the current governance model of various ICAO regional networks and agreed on the way forward.

The Meeting drafted the first version of the problem statement that will be reviewed in future CRV OG Ad-hoc Governance Group meetings. Based on the problem statement, a gap analysis will be prepared to contemplate and propose potential solutions. A cost estimate will be prepared for each possible solution, and a final resolution can be adopted based on various factors, including a cost-efficient solution.
