A collaborative approach for the Ground and Satellite Augmentation Systems Task Force

Following the decision of the CNS SG meeting/23, the first meeting of the APAC Ground-Based Augmentation System and Satellite-Based Augmentation System (GBAS/SBAS) Implementation Task Force was held through VTC from 23-24 June 2020 in which 104 participants from APAC states and industry joined. As participants came from different backgrounds and were not all familiar with GBAS and SBAS systems, a brainstorming exercise was organized online to capture the Issues and challenges regarding GBAS/SBAS implementations using an online electronic wall. A snapshot of the wall, before and after, with inputs provided by participants, is shared below:

The second meeting of the APAC Ground-Based Augmentation System and Satellite-Based Augmentation System (GBAS/SBAS) Implementation Task Force

At the second meeting of the Task Force that took place on 9-10 September 2020, 118 participants reviewed the draft action list developed from the walls and gave priorities to each action. This new collaborative approach during the COVID-19 pandemic gave the opportunity for more people to attend our meeting and to share their ideas. ICAO’s APAC Office is thinking about other ways to use this electronic wall to engage more with States and the industry in our regional work.
