This is a big way we can help States address critical aviation recovery priorities and rebuild capacities

The pandemic and the current economic uncertainty have created a lot of turbulence for the aviation industry. Airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, regulators, and international organizations need to work together to adapt to the ever-evolving new normal so that we can ensure aviation is safe, secure and sustainable. Demand is expected to increase throughout 2022 as governments ease restrictions on international travel. There is a need for greater collaboration, data-sharing, and digitalization across the network.

ICAO is bringing together three combined events to facilitate this collaboration. The ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2022) is being held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 28 June to 1 July 2022, under the theme of Reconnecting the World: Runway to Aviation Recovery. This event, which is being generously hosted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Türkiye, is combining three events into one: ICAO’s World Aviation Forum (IWAF),  the Global Aviation Cooperation Symposium (GACS)  and the Global Aviation Training and TRAINAIR PLUS Symposium.

By attending this Symposium, participants will gain solutions for addressing the challenges aviation is facing. Key programme highlights include how to:

  • Accelerate and optimize the recovery of the global aviation sector;
  • Achieve a sustainable and resilient future for aviation;
  • Apply innovation in implementation support and training activities;
  • Foster partnerships for efficient and relevant outputs; and
  • Leverage ICAO support for global, regional and national aviation plans and ICAO SARPs implementation

The Symposium will focus on the industry’s road to recovery and the ways ICAO is supporting Member States in the implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS), through innovative implementation support and training activities. GISS 2022 will serve as a platform to unite current and prospective Technical Cooperation Partners, TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP) Members, and industry stakeholders. An exhibition will complement the event by showcasing a broad range of technologies and services.
