Our latest ICAO Air Transport Monthly Monitor Update

  • ASK (total services) saw a 5.5% increase, while RPK (total services) increased by 10.2% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a 6.8% increase, while RPK (international services) increased by 12.5% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

Asia/Pacific

  • ASK (total services) saw a 2.0% increase, while RPK (total services) increased by 1.4% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a -8.0% decline, while RPK (international services) decreased by -10.5% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

Europe

  • ASK (total services) saw a 0.5% increase, while RPK (total services) decreased by -7.6% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a -0.2% decline, while RPK (international services) decreased by -8.1% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

Latin America/Caribbean

  • ASK (total services) saw a 6.0% increase, while RPK (total services) increased by 4.0% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a 2.7% increase, while RPK (international services) increased by 1.4% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

Middle East

  • ASK (total services) saw a 3.2% increase, while RPK (total services) decreased by -0.2% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a 3.4% increase, while RPK (international services) decreased by -0.03% in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

North America

  • ASK (total services) saw a 0.4% increase, while RPK (total services) increased by 11.7% in August 2024,
    compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.
  • ASK (international services) saw a -3.5% decline, while RPK (international services) decreased by -0.4%
    in August 2024, compared to pre-COVID-19 level seen in August 2019.

  • Route groups that have reached or are fast reaching the pre-COVID level (July 2024 vs July 2019) expressed in RPK (total services) are 1: Europe – North Africa, 2: North America – South West Asia, 3: Intra Central

  • On the contrary, top 5 route groups that are still lagging behind the pre-COVID traffic level expressed in RPK (total services) are 1: Latin America/Caribbean – China, 2: China – North America, 3: Intra China
    & South West Asia, 4: China – Europe, 5: Latin America/Caribbean – North Asia & Pacific South East Asia.
