As international travel evolves, trusted and interoperable traveller identification systems are becoming increasingly important in supporting secure, efficient, and seamless border processes worldwide. Every year, through the ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP) Symposium and Exhibition, we bring together government authorities, international organizations, industry representatives, and technical experts each year to exchange perspectives and discuss developments in traveller identification management and border facilitation.
From 22 to 24 September 2026, we’re hosting the Twenty-First TRIP Symposium at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, Canada. Held under the theme “Putting Trust into Practice: Towards Trusted Travel Identity for All,” the event will bring together government authorities, international organizations, industry representatives, and technical experts to exchange perspectives and experiences related to traveller identification management, document security, facilitation, and border inspection systems.
The Symposium is an important part of ICAO’s ongoing work to support the implementation of global specifications and Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) related to secure and efficient international travel. Through technical discussions, panels, and exhibitions, participants will explore current developments, operational challenges, and emerging approaches shaping the future of traveller identification. The programme will include discussions on a wide range of topics, that include:
- trusted travel identity and interoperability;
- digital travel credentials and emerging technologies;
- machine readable travel documents and document security;
- biometrics and identity management;
- border inspection systems and facilitation;
- fraud prevention and system resilience; and
- implementation experiences and international cooperation.
TRIP 2026 will also provide opportunities for dialogue between States, industry, and international partners on practical approaches to strengthening traveller identification management while supporting efficient passenger processing.
