Driven by predicted increases in traveller volumes and ongoing security risks, the aviation industry, border control authorities, and travel document issuing agencies are looking for more efficient and secure ways to identify and process travellers, while harnessing the capabilities and opportunities afforded by emerging or evolving technologies.
To assist with these efforts, the ICAO TRIP Symposium and Exhibition on ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP) was held from 25 to 28 June 2019 at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, Canada. The annual gathering provides opportunities for representatives from public and private sectors to coordinate efforts in advancing the five elements of the ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP) Strategy. The key focus of the ICAO TRIP Strategy involves the recognized need for a holistic and integrated approach to traveller identification management.
The 2019 Symposium emphasized the need for incorporating technology with the interdependent elements of ICAO’s TRIP Strategy and maximizing the benefits of using digital representation to mitigate challenges for future travellers. Accordingly, the theme of this year’s Symposium highlighted ways to Bridge the Physical-Digital Document Divide.
