As aviation grows and airspace becomes increasingly complex, effective air navigation depends on coordinated planning, collaboration, and the adoption of modern operational practices. Through our Air Navigation World (ANW) events, we bring together regulators, air navigation service providers, industry, and operational experts to exchange knowledge, share implementation experience, and support the global evolution of air traffic management.
The next edition of ICAO Air Navigation World will take place from 5 to 9 October 2026 at our headquarters in Montréal, Canada, with a dedicated focus on Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM). The event will explore the implementation of new ICAO provisions that will become applicable in November 2030, supporting States and aviation stakeholders as they prepare for this important transition.
The new provisions represent a significant milestone for international aviation. Air Traffic Flow Management is expected to become an operational necessity for States, air navigation services providers (ANSPs), and airspace users, making practical implementation planning a central focus of the week. Throughout the event programme, participants will gain practical insights into the new requirements and their operational implications, helping to support the delivery of seamless, resilient, and optimized services across the aviation system.

- Implementation expectations and regional developments
- Airspace and airport capacity assessment
- Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) and Total Airport Management (TAM)
- Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE)
- System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) and Aeronautical Information Management (AIM)
- Civil-military cooperation and flexible use of airspace
- Performance-based navigation and operational improvements
- Emerging concepts including Trajectory Based Operations (TBO), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), higher airspace operations, and space transport operations
Throughout the event we will look at the ways ATFM contributes to broader ICAO objectives by supporting safer, more efficient, and more environmentally sustainable air transport operations through improved collaboration and optimized use of airspace.
