The ICAO Stocktaking Seminar on aviation in-sector CO₂ emissions reductions

The upcoming 2020 Virtual ICAO Stocktaking Seminar is an important one – the event will look at innovative solutions that will unlock current and future CO2 aviation emissions reduction potential and it will provide an opportunity for continuing the quantification of current and future sustainable aviation fuel availability. The event, that will be held virtually from 8 to 11 September 2020, will cover three areas for in-sector reductions:

ICAO has encouraged all Member States and stakeholders to actively participate in the Stocktaking process, including through the submission of an ICAO Stocktaking 2020 Questionnaire. ICAO also organized an online Stocktaking Preview: Reducing aviation in-sector CO2 emissions on 28 April 2020. The presentations from this event have been made available on the dedicated Online Stocktaking Preview page.

The Stocktaking event in September will expand the scope of the stocktaking process by covering in-sector emissions reduction opportunities from aircraft technology improvements, innovations and operational improvements. ICAO Member States and stakeholders are invited to participate in the ICAO Stocktaking process by completing an ICAO Stocktaking 2020 Questionnaire.

The seminar will build on the success of the first ICAO Stocktaking Seminar toward the 2050 Vision for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFS 2019) that provided a forum for the exchange of information and was the first step towards the establishment of a quantified 2050 ICAO Vision for Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
