Every year on International Women’s Day (March 8th) we celebrate the social, cultural, political, and economic achievements of women. It is a day where we recognize the call to action for ensuring gender equality. There isn’t about just one organization or country or group working on this…this is about all those, everywhere around the world, who are trying to bring positive change by raising awareness and identifying and celebrating women’s achievements.
This is a global celebration and we are contributing to the reflection, inspiration…and we hope, change.
In keeping with the UN Women’s theme for International Women’s Day 2021, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, ICAO, in collaboration with IATA and ACI, showcased the extraordinary efforts displayed by women in the aviation sector over the last 12 months. Jointly with men, women went above and beyond to keep the sector alive so that planes could continue to fly and function safely, securely, efficiently, and environmentally responsibly.
In this special ICAO TV event, celebrating women in leadership. Throughout this 90-minute live (and on-demand) event, prominent speakers will share their views and reflections on how challenges created by COVID-19 can be overcome to further enhance gender equality. Gender equality and empowerment of women in the workforce will contribute to the greater sustainability of the aviation industry. Let’s build back better now.
The event was interactive. We kicked off every panel discussion with a poll. Participants had 30 seconds to respond to the multiple-choice questions and their responses (shown as a percentage) stimulated the discussions. Poll questions were be displayed on the screen at the request of moderators, participant responses impacted this event…we wanted to hear from them.

This session focuses on diversity and inclusion in the aviation industry, with a women-centric lens. Guests discuss the resilience of the sector, training opportunities for underrepresented groups, technology innovations tackling unconscious biases, and how to create a socially sustainable sector.
